It was a great surprise to learn that Andrew's high school friend Adam and his family, Marcia, Jacob & Hannah, were also in Paris. They live in Toronto and, unfortunately, we don't see them very often. The last time was when they hosted us at both their home and cottage in Canada two years ago. Before then....well, it was a long time ago.
We quickly agreed to meet the next day, Friday, in front of Notre Dame. As we are still recovering from jet lag, and maybe over-compensated a bit, we got up at 9, had breakfast, Lija worked for a bit while Andrew and Arija bought lunch, and then we hopped on the metro and headed to Notre Dame.
Adam, Marcia et. al. were in Paris for a week, visiting with friends from Italy, and on their way to Singapore for their niece's bat-mitzvah next week. We had our picnic lunch in the park at the rear of Notre Dame where there are some nice shady park benches. It was great catching up with them and we decided to scrap our plans for Notre Dame and the rest of Ile de la Cite so we could spend the afternoon with them at the Pompidou Center.
The view from the top was pretty good, as was the art, but we all just enjoyed hanging out. Arija and Hannah in particular developed a nice friendship in a short time. They had tickets for the Eiffel Tower at 5:30 so they headed off and Andrew had a work call at 5:00 so Lija and the kids watched the performers in the square outside the Pomipidou Center while eating some gelato (saving Andrew roughly 1 tsp of mixed chocolate/mango/hazelnut/raspberry gelato juice).
We then set off to find crepe for dinner. It turns out that savory crepe are called galette and are made with buckwheat. We each ordered our own (Andrew had ham, cheese and egg) and quickly learned that they were very filling. The nutella crepes we were looking forward to would have to wait for another opportunity.
Bon Nuit!
