Today we explored Oxford. On our way to Oxford, we stopped in Northleach, a stereotypically cute Cotswold's town for lunch at the Sherborne Arms pub. Lija had the ploughman’s platter, Adam fish sticks and chips, Arija a jacket potato with bacon and cheese, and I had a beef and mushroom stew pudding which was basically a molton chocolate cake, but instead of cake and ganache, it was stuffing and beef stew.
We finally got to Oxford and walked to Christ Church college, the college of Henry VIII, 13 Prime Ministers, J.R.R. Tolkien, Lewis Carroll, and most importantly, location of 4 different scenes from Harry Potter, including the great hall, which was the model for the great hall at Hogwarts (see below). Dinner at 6:00 is casual and served buffet style, but dinner at 7:30 is formal. How formal? White tie and tails. Every night. On average, during the school year, 200 students attend the formal dinner every evening.
After exiting Christ Church, we began a treasure hunt murder mystery walking tour that we purchased online. We used a treasure hunt book in Paris as well and it really helps to keep the kids engaged. Pokemon Go helps as well. We got through a few clues and then had to move the car. Parking in Oxford is a real challenge. Amazingly, we found a better spot, then continued with our treasure hunt, then Thai for dinner, then home.
