On Sunday the 22nd we left Eilat and drove to Jerusalem. We then had lunch by the dead sea. When we got to Jerusalem we rested.
The next day on Monday we went to this shopping street called Ben Yehuda St. there are a bunch of Jewish shops there. We also finally got Adam a pair of new shoes. Then we went to a nice bookshop restaurant where I had cream of broccoli soup and onion soup.
On Tuesday we walked to the Old City. The walk really wasn’t that far it was just that we had to walk very quickly to get there because we had a tour for the tunnels under the Western Wall. The tunnels were actually pretty cool because we got to walk right up next to the Western Wall. Then we walked around the Old City for the rest of the day. By the time we got back to our apartment my feet hurt soooo much because the hard stones on the ground of the Old City.
The next day was Wednesday and we were all very tired so we decided to stay at home and just relax and have a little bit of school.
Thursday morning we got up, ate breakfast, and hung around the house for a little bit. Then we took the bus to the Israel Museum. The Israel Museum was cool because:
We got to see the dead sea scrolls. The dead sea scrolls were really cool. It was amazing to see scrolls that had survived almost undamaged in pots for 2000 years!
We got to see a 1:50 scale model of what the Old City looked like 2000 years ago
In the youth area we got to see some really cool pieces of art, like a boy walking on a tightrope made out of string stretched between sewing needles. And other cool pieces of art.
On Friday we got up ate breakfast and left Jerusalem. We drove to an archaeological dig place where we actually got to dig for ancient stuff using picks and trowels. We were digging for ancient artifacts from the city of Maresha. The city of Maresha was thriving during the time when the story Hanukkah took place. They left the city so no one would get harmed and then since they didn't want anyone stealing their stuff they shoved it down holes into their underground storage area. So when we went digging that is what we were digging for. Dad found a building block, some vertebrae, a huge piece of pottery, and many small pieces of pottery. I found 2 bones, a bunch of small pieces of pottery, a piece with paint on it, and a piece with a base on it. Adam and Mom both found pottery and Adam found a ton of bones. After the digging part of the tour the people who wanted to could go spelunking. Dad, Adam and I went. It was really fun. We got to crawl through very small holes and in some parts the ceiling was very low.
I really liked our stay in Jerusalem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
